Peets Coffee and Ichima: Off-Colorado
The other day I was exploring the East Pasadena area again. I stopped to have a coffee at Peets.
FREEBIE ALERT!! In celebration of their 40th year anniversary, all through April, Peets is giving out free coffee during 1pm-3pm (at least this one in East Pasadena is). I would highly recommend any coffee lover to trek over during your "office break" or have that "offsite meeting" during the hours of 1pm-3pm in April.
I remember drinking Peets up in Berkeley a long time ago. I used to grab some beans from Peets whenever I was inthe bay area. Peets was a necessary stop back then. Who knew that years later, I'd be able to enjoy a cup of Peets and get the beans right here in East Pasadena.
Fully caffeinated I walked around the parking lot near Peets, to see what was up. Next door to Peets a Daphne's, accross the way a Jamba Juice, Ralphs, Baja Fresh, in the other parking lot section a Islands, Marias Italian, Kabuki Japanese, and IHOP. Most of it looked like Anywhere, CA
In the back area on the Rosemead Blvd. side, I found a Sushi joint called Ichima Sushi. I didn't have any high hopes. I was thinking could they have a lunch special?
Well, I walked up to the front and was checking out the facade when I saw the neon lights in the porthole-shaped windows. I saw one in particular on the side that made me laugh. I had to take a picture. I then quickly walked away - I wasn't sure I wanted to try that place out anymore. See what I mean?

Well, perhaps your right. Maybe I'll give a chance in the future. That sign just made me laugh though.

i had doubts about ichima, but decided to go there when they had a recent remodel. it is now our most regular sushi place. it is easily on par with any other sushi place in the area.

All this anonymous love for ichima. If I find myself out there with a hankering for some sushi, I may go check it out. The sign still made me laugh though.

I'm going to Ichima tonight. I have a major craving.
The chefs are especially nice to my 3-year old son. I am starting him out early on an expensive habit.
Everyone make sure to ask for the bonus card. It is like a frequent diner card. When you get a certain amount of credits on the card, you can apply it to your bill.

A great place I like to go to is a Tiny place right down the road from here on the same street. On the Corner of Foothill & Altadena Dr. is "Sushiya"
Jason, Head Chef and Owner, used to work at Suzuki, which is now Ichima.
I've always admired Jason's product, and his work ethic, and the way he treats his customers. I forgot to mention that I too am a Sushi Chef, and this is where I go for sushi and to get away Customers who think they know everything about Sushi.
They have a Lunch Special All-you-can-eat Sushi for one hour for $19.95, and a Dinner for $21.95
Suggestion: The INFAMOUS "Barcardi Roll" It is a Show Stopper! A Treat for all the senses!
Best time to go: Monday through Wednesday, Thursday if you must satisfy that Sushi fix! (Avoid Friday, Saturday fish is not as fresh, and this is when it is packed w/ customers) Closed Sundays

yeah Peets rocks! You should definitely give Ichima a try its seriously one of my favorite sushi joints. Trust me i've been to my share of sushi bars: Nozawa, Sushi Gen, Nobu's places (malibu and la cienega), R23, just to name a few but Ichima has some great fresh fish for unbeatable prices...if your not too concerned about being in the "scene" and just want great sushi then give it a try. I was the same as you very skeptical but once i tryed it i was hooked. (ask for the bonus card it rocks)
